Free time is scarce these days. Not sure why since I thought retirement was all about free time. I’ve been toying with the idea of creating more abstract work, both in my painting and my letterpress work. I’ve seen lots of posters out there mimicking that mid-century look but they all seem too mass produced, which they probably are. I love the rough, imperfect feel of wood type. I love the missing corners and cracks that come from 100 years of use.
For this series I wanted to play with the letterforms and see what they could create. I have wooden letters from 1″ all the way up to 6″. The limitation usually is the number of each letter. Typically I have only a few of each letter and in some cases, missing certain letters all together.
These are playful explorations in pattern, rhythm and scale.
Each poster is 11″ x 14″ printed on brown kraft or white drawing paper.

Lovely meeting you today Diane!
let’s keep in touch
