The night before leaving, Angus and Sara took us to a neighbouring village for dinner. The village of Althrop is ancestral seat of the Spencers. The walls of the estate went on forever and the home is quite grand. The church nearby, where the family is buried, has had to put up security fencing around the gravestones to deter visitors. Apparently, the rumour is that Diana isn’t really buried within the estate walls on the island, but instead in the church cemetery with the rest of the family. That’s the kind of intel you get eating in the local pub there.
Early Saturday we caught a train into London. They are currently having a heatwave so we were pretty happy to find our hotel has air conditioning. We were too early to check in so We just dropped our bags and started walking. We are about 15 minutes from the British Museum and 10 minutes from Oxford Circus. We didn’t do much other than wander. Spent a bit of time in the museum, mainly for a chance to sit in a cool place. We will head back again for a full visit in the next day or so.

Our hotel, which if you zoom in on the text over the door, used to be a nurses’ home.

We really haven’t had a rest day and I think it’s catching up to us. Colin has the beginning of a cold and I’m ready to wake up in my own bed.

You have had quite a trip. Amazing time cycling and exploring so many different places, meeting up with relatives, good food and drink but I’m not surprised you’re hitting the wall. One can have too much of a good thing. Time to head home! Safe travels. Assume there is still enough fuel in the UK to get you back to Canada.🥴
