Montreal

Habitat 67

Spent the last few days in Montreal. The rain comes and goes and you can feel fall is coming. We have been getting around on the city’s Bixi bike system, which, considering the traffic and construction everywhere, the way to go.

I had always wanted to see this masterpiece created by Moshe Safdie for Expo 67 “Man and His World”. Look it up online because it’s an amazing work for someone just out of architecture school. Now condos, each a different number and orientation of blocks. Each block around 679 sq meters. We toured a large one of 4 blocks, gifted to McGill by Safdie. It had been restored to its original state.

Wanderings

Next, we cycled into Old Montreal for a walk around and lunch. Later lucked into a shop where we found the perfect mother of the bride dress for Mary.

Last stop, a cocktail at the old Birks building, now an upscale hotel. All the grandeur of the building still intact.

The previous day we stopped at the Musee des beaus arts. Berthe Weill, Art Dealer of the Parisian Avant-garde. She was friend and promoter of many of the greats of the era, Picasso, Matisse, Chagall and Modigliani.

Later today we move to Saint-Jérôme for the night, in preparation for tomorrow’s start of our cycling trip.
