Today’s Distance: 197 mi/ 316 km
First stop this morning is awe-inspiring Giant’s Causeway, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Then, let the province’s story unfold as you head for the city of Derry before returning to the Republic to visit Donegal, the ancient town founded by Danish Vikings and home of the O’Donnell Clan. Drive along Donegal Bay with its small fishing ports and hidden beaches before arriving in Sligo.
OUR THOUGHTS:
A long day of travel but so much to see. Giant’s Causeway was amazing. So was Norma, she passed on the shuttle service and walked both down to the causeway and all the way back up.

There are no shortages of sheep or beautiful views along the way.
We drive by Royal Portrush golf course on our travels. It was explained the “Royal” was bestowed upon them by Prince Andrew, which now complicates things.

Derry was very interesting. We toured the areas most affected by the troubles. You can still see the wall and many buildings still have razor wire along the tops. It’s seemed so sad.
We are in Sligo for the night at an old railway hotel. It feels like time has stood still. We have a beautiful corner suite but getting to it took some work. It’s room 538 but you take a tiny elevator up to floor two. Then you carry your bag down a floor to a new hallway that connects to another wing. Finally there is a hallway to the room.

Good day my kin! Very nice to see you touring the ‘homeland’ 😉 Such a shame about the weather going full-Irish on you… on a sunny day, all the good whiskey islands (Islay and Jura) are so close.
The west coast – The Wild Atlantic Way – is so gorgeous. Send more pictures. Can wait to hear all about it in July!
much love – jen
Norma Looks so happy!
