Sligo – Galway – Cliffs Of Moher – Limerick

  • by

Today’s Distance: 181 mi/ 290 km
TOUR DESCRIPTION: Travel farther south to Galway, a popular seaside destination and a buzzing cosmopolitan district with vibrant shops, and a busy café and bar culture. Cross the limestone plateau of The Burren to visit the spectacular 668-foot Cliffs of Moher.

OUR THOUGHTS: Our favourite day so far. The Wild Atlantic Way along the coast was stunning. We were lucky to dodge the hourly rain showers and have clear skies for our stops. Galway was a great town with a good mix of shops and restaurants. The land around here isn’t much good for anything other than grazing but it was so green and each section marked by dry stack stone walls. Even before the we reached the famous Cliffs of Moher there were lots of coastal vistas. The roads were terrifying at times. At one particularly narrow spot we had an equally large tour bus coming towards us. There was no where to go. There was only an inch or two between us. All along the road someone would come fly at us, requiring this passing dance. Not for the faint of heart.

The Cliffs of Mohr

This was the highlight of the day. Pictures can’t capture their beauty. The mist rolled in and out the whole time we were there. Again, mom was a star climbing up to the top with us. She brought this fantastic blue raincoat to make her easily visible to us. A good idea as she was moving along at such a fast pace that she was hard to keep track of.

We are in Limerick for the night. I feel like I should end today’s post with a Limerick but am a little tired after my pint of Smithicks.

  1. Such beautiful scenery. So glad Norma is doing so well. You ladies are having a blast.

  2. Great to hear that all of Norma’s training walks around her neighborhood have her leading the charge on the paths. Also great to see all the smiles.

  3. There once were three gals from BC
To Ireland to see what they could see
    They were stylish and classy
    Dressed age appropriate sassy
And Norma is called Queen Bee

  4. Don and Kathy Ruddy

Spectacular scenery! Love seeing that bright turquoise raincoat right in the thick of things, not missing anything. Just so wonderful.
