TOUR DESCRIPTION: On your northbound route today, pass Drogheda, scene of the Battle of the Boyne in 1690, then through the fertile landscape of the Boyne Valley, known for its prehistoric passage graves. Cross the border into Northern Ireland, and drive past the Mountains of Mourne to Downpatrick, the burial place of Patrick, Ireland’s Patron Saint, and on to the vibrant city of Belfast, where the Titanic was built.
OUR THOUGHTS: The first stop was the village of Downpatrick which appeared to be an interpretive centre but was really a gift shop/cafe. There was a small tourist info area with a few brochures. We then drove up the hill to Downpatrick Cathedral and the supposed grave of St Patrick. Overall very strange. Even the Celtic cross out from was a replica.

The real highlight was a historic tour of Belfast. Really interesting hearing about the “troubles” and who did what to who. The wall is still there and the division is still vast.

Last stop was the Titanic Museum. A very interactive experience that included an actual ride through the ship yard. Lots of innovative ways to present information. Well worth the money.

All so awesome.
